For what reasons may I terminate or fire someone?
An employer may terminate or fire someone for various reasons in the state of Florida. Florida is an at will employment state, which essentially means that an employer can terminate an employee for any reason so long as it’s not based on a protected characteristic. However, an exception might be if there is an employment contract that’s already in place between the employer and the employee. If so, that contract might contain certain specifications when termination would be allowed. If that’s the case, I would recommend contacting an attorney to further discuss your rights and obligations.
