Do workers who receive tips also qualify for a minimum wage?
Yes, workers who receive tips do also qualify for a minimum wage. Many times, the employers will take advantage of what’s called a tip credit which allows them to pay a lesser minimum wage. In Florida, the current tip credit minimum wage, in $2016, is $5.03. What this means is, if an employer provides advanced notice to employees, and those employees make more than $30 a month, customarily and regularly, in tips, then the employer is able to pay them $5.03 and still satisfy their minimum wage obligations.
